    Mostly great!

The Makita 36V rail saw has earned its good reputation. I did a pretty thorough unboxing and review, and I'm glad I picked this saw. It has plenty of power, makes smooth cuts, and for the most part has all the features you'd want. One thing it lacks is a riving knife, which a high-end saw like this really should have.

The only two issues were: The listed maximum depth of cut is 56mm. This was not the case. I measured this carefully, and the maximum depth was 53-54mm. Also, when you attempt cuts of any serious depth, the blade that comes with the saw deflects quite badly, requiring a number of passes instead of just one. It is not clear if this is this would improve with a more robust blade or not, but it was disappointing.

As long as you aren't going to be doing heavy-duty deeper cuts, the saw is excellent. If you want to cut to 56mm, sorry, you can't. And if you're going to be doing deep cuts in general, investigate to see if this saw can do that with a better blade, otherwise this might not be the saw for you.
