The ToolShed Supports Young Kiwi Racer on the Road to Success

Date: 08-10-2025

For most young drivers, the road to success begins at a local kart track with a big dream. For sixteen-year-old Taranaki racing driver Jacob Bellamy, that dream has quickly turned into reality thanks to hard work, family support, and the backing of The ToolShed New Plymouth.

Jacob’s journey is a story of determination and dedication. From his first laps in go-karts to racing a Porsche Boxster, The ToolShed has been proud to help him develop his skills and prepare for every new challenge.

From Go-Karts to Porsche Racing

Jacob began his motorsport career at his local kart club, where his natural talent quickly stood out. With encouragement from his parents and support from The ToolShed, he started competing around the country and gaining valuable experience against tougher competition.

That early support was about more than sponsorship. The ToolShed believed in Jacob’s potential and provided the gear, advice, and community connection needed to help him perform at his best.

Preparing for the Next Level

Jacob’s move from karts to cars came through the Team Kiwi Racing scholarship, where he drove a BMW before stepping into his current Porsche Boxster. The car was purchased race-prepared and in left-hand drive, a deliberate choice to prepare for his ultimate goal of racing Porsche GT3 Cup Cars in Europe.

“The Cup cars are all left-hand drive, so driving the Boxster is perfect preparation,” says Jacob.

It is a big ambition, but one that The ToolShed is proud to help him achieve.

Mentorship and Learning

Jacob continues to learn from some of the best in New Zealand motorsport. Under the guidance of team boss Max Schlegel, who has managed V8 Supercar teams in New Zealand and Australia, Jacob is learning the strategy and discipline needed to succeed at a professional level.

He has also completed media training with sports commentator Stephen McIvor, helping him grow both on and off the track.

“Everyone who meets Jacob can’t believe how young he is and how fast he is,” says his dad Brendon. “We just need to keep that momentum going through to GT3 and beyond.”

Rising Star in Porsche Motorsport

At the Porsche Club of New Zealand Annual Awards Dinner in March 2025, Jacob was named Rookie of the Year and National Champion in the 2.5-litre Class of the Pirelli Porsche Racing Championship.

For a 16-year-old competing in a national racing series, these achievements highlight his dedication and passion. The ToolShed is proud to have played a part in supporting his journey.
